It was her method of getting politicians' attention to act to combat global warming. Swedish media caught Thunbergs striking, and the message spread. In the following days, a plethora of students around the world joined the #FridaysforFuture strike, which saw students skip school on Fridays to protest against climate change. Climate activists from across the globe organized the initial Global Strike for Climate in 2019. It was a huge success; over 1.6million people from over 100 countries participated.
